Description

Claremont is a house, now converted into flats, built in 1876, with extensions added in 1930 and further modifications in the mid-20th century. It is constructed from dressed millstone grit with ashlar dressings and features a Welsh slate Mansard roof with stone stacks.

The exterior consists of two storeys and an attic, with a symmetrical entrance front that has three windows. The central doorway features a part-glazed door and overlight set within an ashlar surround, supported by two Corinthian columns and topped with a flat hood that has a curved top inscribed with the year 1876. Above the doorway is a 2/2 sash window in a moulded ashlar surround with a bracketed sill and a segmental pediment. On either side of the entrance are single, two-storey canted stone bay windows with lead roofs, containing 2/2 and plain sash windows. Above these bays are three segment-headed dormer windows, each with a 2/2 sash.

On the right side of the building, there are four windows arranged in a 2:2 pattern. The left block has two sashes on each floor, with the right ground floor sash featuring later stained glass, and above are two segment-headed dormers. The right block has similar window arrangements topped with two through-eaves gabled dormer windows. The interior has not been inspected.
