Description
The bridge over the River Wye in Buxton is a late 19th-century structure, manufactured by H Bailey and Sons Co from Manchester. It features painted cast-iron and coursed dressed stone piers. Both the west and east sides have four piers with moulded cornices that support the main shallow arch, which has a pendant and is flanked by two smaller side arches. All arches have trellised spandrels and a balustrade. Notable details include rosette bosses on the trellis, two square-section verticals with shallow caps, and a moulded top rail on the balustrade. Round-headed segmental arches support the bridge. This bridge serves as an ornamental feature of the Pavilion Gardens, which were originally designed by Sir Joseph Paxton for the Duke of Devonshire.
