Description
The North East boundary walls at Cromford Wharf were built around 1794 and have undergone some alterations in the 20th century. Constructed from coursed squared stone with half-round coping, the walls feature ashlar gatepiers made of gritstone. The wall is approximately 1.5 meters high and extends about 100 meters along the southeast side of Mill Road from the Counting House gateway, then continues east for about 75 meters to connect with Rose Cottage. Adjacent to the Counting House, there are a pair of tapered square gatepiers with ramped coping. At the northeast end, there is a gateway that was widened in the mid-20th century, featuring one similar gatepier. The eastern section of the wall is approximately 2.5 meters high and includes a doorway. These walls are significant as they date from the first phase of development on the site, serving to enclose and define the area.
