Description

Walton Hall is a late 18th-century house with 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of ashlar gritstone with a moulded eaves cornice, coped gables featuring moulded kneelers, ashlar gable stacks, and a stone slated roof. The house has an L-shaped plan, with a lower range extending to the rear. The north-east elevation is two storeys and an attic, comprising three bays with a central doorway set within a slightly advanced ashlar surround. Above the doorway is a rectangular overlight below a deep, plainly moulded head with a shallow cornice. The doorway has a 20th-century plank door fitted with a diamond-shaped window. Flanking the doorway are windows arranged diminishing in height from ground floor to attic, originally with glazing bar sashes. Ground floor openings retain 4x4 pane sashes. First-floor openings have 20th-century timber cross window frames, and the attic floor contains three-light casement frames. The sills of the ground and first-floor openings are linked by plain bands. A two-storey range extends to the rear, featuring 20th-century joinery. The interior has been almost completely remodelled. A 20th-century parapeted garage extension to the south elevation is not included in this listing.
