Description

Sutton Lodge is an 18th-century house situated on the north-west side of Chesterfield Road, Brimington. The front facade is constructed of coursed stone, featuring a moulded eaves cornice and a slate roof with coped gable ends and kneelers. Brick chimneys are positioned at the ends of the house. A stone string course runs along the building, linking the first-floor sills.

The main facade has two storeys and originally three windows, now framed by painted architraves. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, though some of the glazing bars are damaged. Stone bay windows with cornices flank a central door, which has its own cornice and pilasters. The door itself has an architrave and an upper rectangular fanlight that has been blocked up. A lower, one-bay section adjoins the north end of the house, and its facade is made of painted brick.

The rear facade is of red brick and features casement windows set in plain stone architraves. Painted stone bands connect the first-floor windows with the original brick ground-floor windows, though these latter are now partly bricked up. The original doorway features massive stone jambs and lintel, with the initials and date 1787 engraved on the lintel. A later doorway has been inserted in the centre of the facade.
