Description
This is a signal box built around 1865, located to the north of the track, 480 metres west of Butterley Station and 30 metres east of Asher Lane Railway Crossing. It features an iron frame with wood plank cladding and a hipped Welsh slate roof topped with spike finials. The structure has cantilevered sections on both sides, with a balcony and glazing all around. It follows a standard Midland Railway design. The signal box was originally located in the Parish of Wigston, Leicestershire, but was moved in 1984 and is now a working signal box on the Midland Railway. It was previously listed on May 5, 1981, in the Borough of Oadby & Wigston, Leicestershire, and included in a list of buildings of special architectural or historic interest compiled on July 26, 1987.
