Description
The dovecote at Exton Park is a large structure dating from the late 18th century. It is built of coursed squared rubble and has an octagonal shape with two stories, topped by a central ball finial and pinnacles. A projecting loggia surrounds four sides of the building, featuring chamfered four-centred arches and shields in the spandrels. Underneath the loggia, there is a timbered roof supported by corbels, along with stone feeding troughs for cattle and blank windows that have shallow arched heads with voussoirs. The entrance is located on the north side, featuring a flat archway with voussoirs at the first floor level, along with arched and chamfered blank openings that include dummy glazing bars. Above the stone cornice, there is a timber eaves cornice with entrance holes for doves. Inside, the upper walls are lined with nesting ledges, and there is a potence.
