Description

Aylestone Old Bridge is a Grade II* listed structure, likely dating from the 15th century, with later modifications. It is a primitive type of long, narrow pack-horse bridge that spans a stream and swampy ground. The bridge features eleven small arches, with three at the far end belonging to the causeway and eight forming the main bridge. One or two of the arches are slightly pointed. The bridge includes projecting cutwaters, some of which are square and others pointed, with three cutwaters providing refuges. A parapet runs along the length of the bridge.
