Description
Clarence House, dated 1877, was designed by architect Edward Burgess. It is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and features an embattled parapet. The building has a steep-pitched tiled roof with gabled ends and consists of two storeys and an attic. The front facade includes two projecting twin gabled bays, each with square panels that contain shields in the gables. There are large stone mullion and transom windows, and a prominent pointed arch entrance with a drip mould. A rose-window is located in the gable end, and a fleche sits over the ridge of the roof. The building includes an attached gatehouse to the left, which has a pseudo timber-frame and brick design, featuring a jettied timber-frame gable end. The gatehouse also has a large pointed-arch carriageway with iron gates, a stone oriel above with four lights that have cusped heads, and a square panel with a shield and helmet above that.
