Description
Nos 2 and 4 Thompson's Yard is a three-storey building from the Regency period, featuring three windows. It is constructed of red brick and has a stone frieze and cornice supported by paired brackets. The roof is stone flagged. The building has gauged flat brick arches and stone cills for the sash windows, which include glazing bars. To the right, there is a two-storey canted bay with similar windows, adorned with stone pilasters and entablatures. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door set within a narrow architrave, flanked by narrow pilasters and an entablature that is broken forward in the center. There are two stone steps leading up to the door. The left bay is set back and designed in a similar style. This building was previously part of No 60 Westgate, which is noted as the birthplace of George Gissing.
