Description

The lodge, outbuilding, and wall associated with Spenfield date from around 1877, with later alterations in the late 20th century and repositioning of the walls and piers in the 1990s. It was likely designed by George Corson. The lodge is constructed of coursed, squared rock-faced gritstone ashlar, laid in diminishing courses, and has ashlar detailing, with a grey slate roof. The attached wall and gate piers are also of ashlar.

The lodge is a single-story, two-bay building. It has a projecting gabled bay featuring a three-light mullion and transom window on the left side. The entrance is located in the right return of this bay, with a timber porch having a round arch, attached columns, a balustrade, a pitched roof with deep eaves, and a ball finial. The lodge has gable copings and tall octagonal ashlar stacks – two behind the ridge to the left and one half-projecting from the right gable. A slate-roofed bay window on the right return faces towards Spenfield. The interior of the lodge has not been inspected.

A small outbuilding with a pyramid roof, located in the rear yard, connects to the roadside boundary wall. The gate piers are approximately 2.5 meters high; the inner pair are octagonal with a plinth, a moulded band, an ornate capstone featuring carved flower motifs, and moulding. A low ashlar wall with a moulded coping curves out to connect with the outer piers, which are square with moulded and pedimented capstones. A taller gritstone wall connects to the lodge yard wall on the left, extending for approximately 20 meters.
