Description
The gate piers and gates with flanking walls at the west side of the Church of St Stephen were likely built around 1828-1829 by architect RD Chantrell. The structure features coursed squared gritstone walls that are approximately 10 meters long and 1.5 meters high, topped with moulded coping. The monolithic gate piers stand 3 meters tall, each with moulded bases and a gabled capstone on both sides. The double gates are designed with bars and dog bars, adorned with floriate finials, and include a lock-rail with trefoil piercings. This structure is included for its group value.
