Description

A row of six estate workers' cottages, likely dating from the early 19th century and designed by John Carr for Edward Lascelles, 1st Earl of Harewood. The cottages are constructed of punch-dressed, herringbone-tooled stone on the facade, with hammer-dressed stone to the sides and rear, and have a stone slate roof. They are arranged as six single cells, with a double depth. The cottages have two storeys and a total of twelve first-floor windows. Quoins are present. Each cottage has a doorway to the left of a window, both with lintels, although lacking monolithic jambs. Above the doorways, two square windows with plain stone surrounds are topped by deep lintels that align with an eaves band. Six windows retain their original 12-pane Yorkshire sash glazing, while the others have been altered to small-pane casements. A wooden gutter is supported by paired gutter brackets. Three square ashlar ridge stacks are visible.
