Description
Hill Top Farmhouse is a farmhouse that may have a 17th century wing attached to an earlier building, restored in the 19th century, or it could be a 19th century cottage designed in a 17th century style. It is constructed from magnesian limestone rubble with some quoins and features a steeply-pitched stone slate roof. The building has a T-plan layout, consisting of a single cell front block with a rear service wing.
It stands two storeys high and has a plinth with chamfered coping. The east front features a chamfered doorway with a four-centred head, and to the right is a 19th century three-light mullioned window with a hoodmould. The south gable wall has a recessed double-chamfered three-light stone mullioned window on each floor, both with hoodmoulds and showing signs of heavy weathering, although some unweathered surfaces reveal traces of 19th century chiselling. The north gable wall includes an external chimney stack with two diagonal chimneys, and to the left of this is a first-floor window. The rear wing has one bay and two lower storeys, with altered openings. The eaves project at the ends of small purlins.
Inside the front block, there is an inserted partition that creates an entrance passage from the front door, but there is no visible evidence of the 17th century structure.
