Description
Early Butts Nos 2 and 4 are a pair of cottages that form part of a later row, dating from the mid-18th century. They are constructed of coursed rubble with quoins and feature a stone slate roof. The cottages are two storeys high.
On the south-east elevation, there are two central doorways with massive lintels and chamfered surrounds. To the right, each floor has a chamfered stone mullioned window with recessed, chamfered mullions, although one mullion has been replaced. To the left, there is a 4-light window on the ground floor with two mullions removed, and a 3-light window on the first floor, both styled similarly. At the rear, there is a later outshut extension with a catslide roof, along with a recent extension to the left gable.
