Description

Nos 1, 3, and 4 Long Ing, together with the attached barn, are a group of cottages and a barn, dating from 1837. The buildings are constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and have stone slate roofs, featuring coped gables with kneelers. Three gable stacks are visible. The cottages are three storeys high and originally had three-light, two-light, and four-light flush ashlar mullion windows on each floor. Many of these windows have been partially blocked or replaced with 20th-century casements, and doors have been inserted. To the left, there is a single three-light mullion window, with a door below and two plain sashes above on each floor. The attached barn is positioned at a right angle, and features a large segment-headed archway, followed by a small inserted window and a doorway. A later addition to the barn includes a blocked doorway and a 20th-century sliding door, above which is a plain sash window. The barn’s roof utilizes a collar beam structure with passing purlins.
