Description

This is a mid-19th century block of terraced townhouses on Trinity Street, built of ashlar stone with a pitched slate roof and a moulded eaves cornice and blocking course. The building is divided into ranges, and each property features two ranges of sash windows to the front. Nos. 166 and 168 have doorways with two moulded panels, flanked by Tuscan pilasters, a full entablature, and a blocking course. No. 166 includes a blocked passage entrance with moulded voussoirs and a transom. No. 170 has a doorway with two moulded panels within a moulded stone frame, a moulded cornice, a blocking course, and a blocked passage entrance with moulded voussoirs and imposts. No. 172 features a door with four moulded panels, a moulded stone frame, a moulded cornice, and a blocking course. No. 174 has an additional range of sashes and a canted bay with sashes, moulded cornice, blocking course, and a door with a moulded stone frame, moulded cornice, and blocking course. The doorway of No. 176 has six moulded panels, a moulded stone frame, and a moulded cornice, topped by a blocking course. Nos. 178 and 180 have doors with two moulded panels each, supported by Tuscan half-columns, a moulded cornice, and a blocking course. Passage entrances feature at Nos. 178 (with four sunk panels, a blind fanlight, moulded voussoirs, and imposts) and No. 180 (glazed). Nos. 182 and 186 have doorways with one moulded panel each, flanked by Tuscan pilasters, a full entablature, a blocking course, and sculpted wreaths in relief. Also present are canted bays with Tuscan piers, moulded cornices, blocking courses, and sculpted wreaths in relief, alongside passage entrances with moulded voussoirs and imposts. Nos. 184 and 188 have doors (No. 184’s plain, No. 188’s with two moulded panels), with Tuscan pilasters, a full entablature, and a blocking course displaying sculpted wreaths. No. 190 has one range of sashes on the front elevation, with a moulded surround on the first floor, Tuscan pilasters, a full entablature, a blocking course with a sculpted wreath in relief, and a panelled apron. The west side features three sashes with moulded surrounds and two canted bays on the ground floor, including sashes, Tuscan piers, a moulded cornice, a blocking course with sculpted wreaths in relief, a door with a moulded cornice and blocking course with a sculpted wreath in relief, partially concealed by a timber porch.
