Description

Ward Place House and barn form part of a larger group, dating to the early 18th century. The building is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof, featuring two ashlar stacks supported by moulded stone brackets. The house is two storeys high. A central doorway has a Tudor arched lintel and a chamfered surround. The left bay has a four-light double-chamfered window where the outer mullions have been removed. The right bay features five-light windows, with the first-floor window also having its outer mullions removed. A rear outshut extension, dating from the early or mid-19th century, is visible, with an entrance and a three-light window to the ground floor, and two further three-light windows to the first floor, each with two blocked lights. Adjacent to the house is a barn with a large doorway on each elevation, protected by a timber lintel. A later outshut has been added to the barn’s rear. Inside the barn are queen post trusses with struts. A later addition to the north of the barn is present, and a house to the right of the farmhouse is considered to be of no architectural interest.
