Description
Shepherd House Farmhouse with attached outhouse dates to 1745, with a significant rebuild in the 18th and early 19th centuries. The farmhouse is constructed of painted coursed squared stone with a stone slate roof. It is two storeys high and originally comprised two bays. Quoins are visible on the first floor to the right. A pair of doorways, each with stone lintels and tie stones, lead to a 20th-century internal porch. There is a square window to the right and a single-light window to the left on the ground floor; the first floor has a five-light and a four-light window. All windows feature plain stone surrounds and flat-faced mullions. Moulded gutter brackets are present. The gables are topped with coping, and corniced stacks project from the ends and in front of the ridge to the left of the centre. An outhouse is attached to the left, set forward, and has a quoined doorway on its right side. A 1970s conservatory to the right is not considered to be of historic interest. At the rear, there are chamfered mullion windows including a seven-light and a three-light window on the ground floor, and a five-light and a three-light window above. The central lights of the left-hand windows are wider. A lower house is visible on the left return with a roofline of rubble brought to course. On the left gable, a blocked rectangular opening has a dated lintel. A kerbstone, formerly a lintel, is positioned in front of the doors, inscribed "L" and "TH", referencing Thomas and Hanna Lister, Thomas Lister being a prominent Yorkshire clockmaker from 1746.
