Description
Willow Clough and Willow Lodge is a house that has been divided into two dwellings, dating from around 1800, though it may have earlier origins. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone and features a stone slate roof.
The garden front, facing south, is two storeys high and has a symmetrical arrangement of 2:4:2 bays with a central break and rear access. On the ground floor, there are sash windows with glazing bars set in architraves across the central four bays. Each pair of outer bays contains a central French window, which is framed by a plain stone surround and topped with a moulded cornice. The first floor also features sash windows with glazing bars, set in plain stone surrounds and with a cill band. The roof is hipped, with stacks flanking the central block and at the rear of the side blocks.
Inside Willow Lodge, the stair hall includes six-panel doors, a dentil cornice, and a plaster ceiling rose decorated with swags and ribbons. The dog-leg staircase has turned balusters typical of the 18th century and a ramped handrail. On the first floor, there are three well-preserved grates from around 1800.
