Description
The aqueduct carrying the canal over Luddenden Brook, built around 1798 for the Rochdale Canal Company, is a Grade II listed structure. It is constructed from coursed squared stone and supports the canal along with a 20th-century pavement that has replaced the original towing path. The aqueduct features three low segmental arches that rest on rounded piers. Above the arches, there is a band, and the walling includes four pilaster buttresses with a band below the parapet, which has chamfered coping and is slightly raised above the buttresses. The wall curves around on the north-east side and has flat coping. For more information on the history of the canal's construction, refer to Sowerby Long Bridge.
