Description
Sir Francis Crossley's Almshouses, built in 1865 by R Ives, is a long, nine-storey range designed in the Tudor Gothic style. The building features three-storey, battlemented towers at the center and ends, along with two subsidiary octagonal turrets and a stone gable for each dwelling. The steep, slated roof is complemented by arched doorways and windows with mullions and transoms. Prominent chimney-stacks add to the architectural interest. The terrace and front boundary walls include steps, piers, wrought iron gates, and some railing.
