Description
Blackley House is a house and rear cottage, now used as a single residence. It is built from hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof with coped gables. This two-storey home has classical proportions and a symmetrical facade, which includes large projecting quoins, window surrounds, and a decorative band. The centrally placed doorway has a moulded architrave and a pedimented head supported by console brackets, along with a pulvinated frieze. The ground and first floors each have five bays of single-pane sash windows without glazing bars, and there are square stone gutter brackets with hoodmoulds underneath. On the right side of the building, there is a semi-circular headed doorway with a six-light segmented fanlight above it. Above this doorway is a staircase window that matches in detail and proportions. At the rear of the facade is an earlier cottage that has been significantly altered, featuring a datestone over the door that reads 'I.C.M. 1744', which is now located internally. This rear cottage has moulded kneelers and quoins, but all its windows have been altered.
