Description
This is a row of ten shops with offices above, built in 1890 in Keighley. Designed by J Judson and Moore for Alderman R L Hattersley, the building is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings, and has a hipped slate roof with seven chimney stacks. It features pilaster strips and bracketed eaves. The ten original shop fronts retain tall wooden pilasters, brackets, and fascia boards. A central carriage entry has a bracketed lintel. To the left is a shop front, then a doorway leading to the offices, with elaborate double panel doors and a tripartite overlight, topped by brackets supporting a broken swan-neck pediment carved with a festoon. Four shop fronts follow to the right, then a further four shop fronts culminate in a corner shop front. Above the central three windows is a bow window with a moulded ashlar surround, a pulvinated frieze, and a flat hood. To the left are five windows with matching surrounds; the central one has pilasters and a segmental pediment inscribed "HATTERSLEY CRESCENT." A canted bay window with a similar surround follows, after which are three windows and a corner bay window, all with similar surrounds. To the right are four windows, then a canted bay window topped by a pediment inscribed "1890," followed by two windows and a corner bay window, all with similar surrounds. The upper floor mirrors the ground floor fenestration pattern, with small windows in plain ashlar surrounds. Plain sashes are present throughout.
