Description
No 31 Bridgegate is a townhouse that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the mid-18th century, with later additions at the rear. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, which has been painted, and it features a coated Welsh slate roof.
The structure stands three storeys high and has a symmetrical facade with two bays on either side of a slightly projecting central bay that is topped with a pediment. The ground floor has a modern shop front that spans the full width. On the first floor, the central bay features a Venetian window with unequally-hung sashes, intersecting glazing bars, and a keystone above the central light. The outer bays have unequally-hung 9-pane sashes with projecting sills and flat arches that are keyed; one of the bay windows has been replaced with a casement.
On the second floor, there is a central Diocletian window with a keystone, while the other windows are similar to those on the first floor but taller. The building is finished with a moulded cornice at the eaves and a pediment. There are kneelers and square-cut gable copings on the right side, and truncated brick stacks at the ends.
