Description
The cartshed and attached single-storey outbuildings at the south end of the farmyard to Campsmount Home Farm date from the mid to late 18th century and are likely the work of architect John Carr for the Campsmount estate. The structure is built from cement-rendered stone and features a Westmorland slate roof.
The cartshed is a two-storey, eight-bay building located at the north end of an L-shaped, single-storey, three by five bay outbuilding. Each bay of the cartshed has a round-arched opening that is two storeys high, set on square piers with plinths and impost blocks. The original floor is at the level of the impost and is supported by wooden beams, with the arches above infilled with PVC sheeting and boarding, including hatches in bays four and five. There is an eaves band along the hipped roof. At the rear, a ramp and external steps lead up to a central first-floor doorway, flanked by brick oculi.
The outbuilding adjoining the cartshed arcade features three sets of garage doors with square stone piers in between. The return limb of the outbuilding has five doorways, two of which are blocked, and it also has an eaves band along the hipped roof. The attached farm buildings at the north end of the cartshed are not of special interest. This group of buildings is part of the Home Farm complex associated with Campsmount, which was demolished in 1959 and was the home of the Yarborough and Cooke-Yarborough families.
