Description

The gate piers and arch to The Friary, dating from the mid-17th century, are constructed from magnesian limestone ashlar. There are two gateways: one is an arched entrance for pedestrians, while the other consists solely of gate piers for carriages. The pedestrian arch features a plain chamfered flat arch with steeply angled voussoirs. Above the chamfered piers of the carriage gates, there is medieval figural sculpture, and the piers are topped with conical caps.
