Description
Park House is a large detached house built around 1780 for Thomas Taylor, with additions made in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of ashlar stone and has a Welsh slate roof. It stands three storeys tall with a symmetrical five-bay facade featuring quoins.
On the ground floor, there is a 19th-century glazed Doric portico flanked by large three-light canted bays, all under a common entablature with a blocking course. The first-floor windows are set in raised surrounds and have later casements, with the central window being taller and adorned with a moulded architrave, a pulvinated frieze, and a triangular pediment. A deep band runs between the first and second floors, where smaller windows are also found in raised surrounds with similar casements. The building features moulded gutter brackets and tall ashlar stacks with cornices at the central well of the hipped roof.
At the rear, there is a Venetian stair window situated between two slightly later two-storey additions, one of which has a later flat roof. The side elevations are two bays wide and include some blind windows, with bands marking the floors.
Inside, a central hall leads to a rear dog-leg cantilevered staircase through a round-arched doorway with a fanlight that has radial glazing bars. The staircase features shaped tread soffits, a moulded ramped handrail, and slender turned balusters. The interior also includes fielded-panel doors and window shutters.
