Description
The railings and gates forming the south-west boundary of Museum Gardens in York were built in 1844 by the John Walker foundry. They consist of cast-iron gates and railings, along with stone piers and a wall. The piers are approximately 1.25 metres high, featuring tapering chamfered sides and domed caps. The railings are raised on a low wall with flat coping, standing about 0.33 metre high. The square section railings are set diagonally, with the carriage gates located towards the left end and a foot gate at the right end, both supported by single curving braces. Additionally, iron plaques bearing the City of York arms are attached to six of the piers.
