Description

48 Low Petergate is a house with a shop, built in 1838 by JP Pritchett for the Dean and Chapter. The building features orange-grey brick in Flemish bond, a timber shopfront, and a timber doorcase. It has a pantile roof with a brick stack and timber guttering supported by paired modillions.

The exterior is three stories high with a three-window front. The shopfront is plain, featuring a plate glass window and doors below a moulded cornice on grooved brackets. To the right, there is a re-used early 18th-century 10-panel door with a bordered overlight, deeply recessed in a doorcase that has panelled reveals, pilastered jambs, and a cornice hood. The first and second floor windows are 12-pane sashes, with the first-floor windows being taller. All windows have painted stone sills and brick cambered arches. A painted timber band runs at the ground floor frieze level, and at each end of the guttering, there are fluted inverted bell rainwater heads. The interior has not been inspected.
