Description
The City Wall from the Multangular Tower to the rear of No. 8 St Leonard's Place is a Grade I listed defensive wall, approximately 75 meters long, dating from 1250 to 1270. It connects the Multangular Tower in the Museum Gardens to the rear of No. 8 St Leonard's Place. The wall is constructed of magnesian limestone ashlar and is underbuilt in some areas with cobbles. It features an embattled design, with heights varying from 3.5 to 5.0 meters and sloped copings. There is an inserted doorway with a corbelled lintel located near the Multangular Tower. The wall is supported by seven squat buttresses with offsets on the outer side, and one buttress, along with traces of another, on the inner side. A wallwalk, approximately 0.5 meters wide, runs along the top of the structure. The wall was excavated in 1969.
