Description

This sundial, located approximately 40 metres east of York Minster, was originally built in 1730 and re-erected around 1955. It is made of stone and features a copper gnomen and lead straps. The sundial is circular in shape and stands about 3 metres high, with a fluted Doric column topped by a cubical sundial that has a cornice and a ball and pedestal finial. The column is surrounded by a flat seat supported by four lions in a reclining position. The sundial was moved from Drakelowe Hall in Burton-on-Trent by the Friends of York Minster and re-erected as part of improvements to College Green.
