Description
No. 41 Stonegate is a house with a shop, built in the late 19th century, featuring a 20th-century shop window. The building is constructed of orange brick in Flemish bond and has two timber cornices, topped with a slate roof.
The exterior consists of three storeys and an attic, with a two-window front. The shop door is a four-panel design with an overlight, set back in a panelled reveal of the shopfront that extends from No. 39. To the left of the door is an original window, which retains its flat arch and faceted keyblock but has been altered to accommodate a cantilevered shop window. The first-floor windows are one-pane sashes, while the second floor features four-pane sashes, all with painted stone sills and flat arches made of orange gauged brick. The attic has two four-pane sash windows, positioned above a moulded modillioned cornice, and there is a plain eaves cornice at the top.
Inside, there is a full-height staircase with an ironwork balustrade decorated with flowers and foliage, a serpentine handrail, and scroll treadends. This building is included for its group value as part of this significant historic street.
