Description

The taxi kiosk, located in the north-east corner of the railway station portico in York, dates from around 1900. It is constructed of timber and glass and features a flat roof. The kiosk consists of two one-storey units made from panels of diagonal boarding, with fixed light windows that have glazing bars set in moulded surrounds with rounded corners. A moulded cornice sits beneath high fascia boards. This kiosk is an unusual survival of a building type that is becoming increasingly rare.
