Description
The Three Tuns is a public house located on Coppergate in York. It likely dates back to the 16th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 19th century and later. The building is timber-framed, rendered, and white-washed, topped with a tiled roof.
It has two storeys and an attic, along with a one-storey extension to the left. The front features one window and a jettied first floor. A replacement six-panel door is situated between two bracketed bow windows. The window on the left has four lights over panelled risers, with moulded mullions and a cornice, while the window on the right has three lights with a moulded sill and cornice. The first floor includes a six-light window with moulded mullions, a bracketed sill, and a cornice lintel. An attic window is a gabled dormer featuring two sets of two-light sliding sash windows within a moulded surround. To the left of the door, there is a boot scraper niche with an ogee-arched head. The interior has not been inspected, but records indicate it was refitted in the 20th century.
