Description
The pyramid monument, located approximately 50 metres north of Tetley Hall, is likely a burial vault for the Stovin family. It dates from the 18th century and has undergone some later partial rebuilding. The structure is made of brick with an ashlar casing and features a low four-sided pyramid that measures about 3 metres square, standing on a pedestal with a cyma-moulded plinth and cornice. The pyramid consists of five courses, including a capstone. The north and east sides of the pedestal show signs of later rebuilding, with fragmentary plinth and cornice largely replaced by plain slabs. The Stovin family, who were Quakers and played a significant role in the history of the Isle of Axholme, occupied Tetley Hall during the 17th and 18th centuries. The family graveyard is located just 2 metres to the west.
