Description
41 Whitecross Street is a late 18th-century building that stands two storeys tall, constructed of colour-washed brick with a new roof hidden behind a parapet. It features a rendered plinth and has three hung sash windows with glazing bars set within reveals. Above the first-floor windows, there is a stucco band, and a moulded stucco cornice crowns the building. The ground floor is distinguished by a pair of canted bays that include wooden mullions and an entablature, also with glazing bars. The entrance door consists of four panels with marginal lights and an oblong fanlight, framed by a panelled reveal and a surround of Roman Doric fluted half-columns topped with an entablature. To the right, there is a recessed wing with one window and a carriageway on the ground floor. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 11 to 23 (odd), The Volunteer Inn, and Nos 27 to 37 (odd), with Nos 27 to 33 (odd) being of local interest only.
