Description

The Cottage is a house dating from the 17th to early 18th century, which was later encased in brickwork during the 19th century and has undergone further additions and alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The construction is timber frame with a brick facade, brick additions, and colourwashed render, topped with a concrete tile roof. The building has a plan comprising two bays of timber framing, creating a two-room lobby-entry with a staircase behind a central stack. A later rear outshut and kitchen extend to the left. It is a single-storey building with an attic and two windows. A 20th-century half-glazed door, sheltered by a timber lintel, is flanked by 20th-century casement windows. The roof is half-hipped, with a central stack. Attic casements are present on both returns. Inside, the original timber frame is visible behind the stack and on the first floor, featuring wall posts, wall plates, tie beams, panels with vertical studs, and curved braces.
