Description

The Grosvenor Club is a late 17th-century building that was extended at the rear and refitted internally in 1833. It stands three storeys tall, with a rendered exterior and a hipped pantile roof. The façade features two sets of windows above one set, with one window slightly projecting to the right. All windows are hung sashes with glazing bars, and the ground floor has two hung sash windows, although the centre window has been blocked. The building has a plinth and a late 18th or early 19th-century doorway that includes channelled pilasters, consoles, lions' mask paterae, and an entablature beneath a segmental pediment. The door consists of six fielded panels and has a rectangular fanlight above. The building is topped with a parapet and cornice, while the rear elevation is made of white brick from the 19th century. The south bay displays a stag's head badge with a datestone from 1833.

Inside, the staircase remains in place, although the balusters and handrail on the lower flights date from 1883. The upper flight features balusters that are likely late 17th-century and have a distinctive bobbin pattern, along with plain newels. The staircase has a closed moulded string with a pulvinated frieze. Some mid-18th-century balusters, turned below and fluted above, have been reused in the 19th-century handrail on the first-floor rear. Additionally, there is an early 18th-century panelled stone chimneypiece in the attic, which is complemented by a delicate late 18th-century cast iron grate. The joinery from 1833 is of high quality.
