Description

This is a dovecote, stable, and granary range built in 1776, with a later addition from the 18th to 19th century to the west. It is constructed of red-brown brick and features pantile roofs. The building is rectangular in shape and consists of three rooms, with a two-storey stable/dovecote section on the left and a low two-storey stable/granary section adjoining to the west, which has a later extension.

On the north side, the dovecote section has a single ground-floor board door under a segmental arch and a first-floor board door beneath a timber lintel. The lower section to the right features a board stable door beneath a segmental stretcher arch, with a straight joint between the two sections, and another board door to the right under a segmental stretcher arch, along with a small hatch and a single-flue roof stack. The building has double stepped eaves throughout and tumbled-in brickwork at the raised gables. The left gable of the dovecote has a 6-pane casement window in reveal and wrought-iron figures "7 6".

On the south side, facing the street, the dovecote section has a ground-floor board door beneath a cambered arch, with a pair of inserted pipe breathers to the right and a blocked first-floor hatch. The adjoining section to the left has a board door beneath a concrete lintel, a row of four pipe breathers, and a 6-pane window above beneath a lintel at eaves level. The left extension features a board door beneath a segmental arch, two pairs of blocked breather slits, and a 20th-century rebuilt eaves section. The interior of the first-floor dovecote contains a full range of brick-built nesting holes. This building is included for its group value.
