Description

These are a group of four houses, numbered 8 to 11 St John Street, Beverley, dating from before 1690, although they were refaced in the early 18th century. Later elements were added at a later date. The houses are two storeys high, with a pebble-dashed exterior and a pantile roof. A moulded brick eaves cornice runs along the top, with an iron gutter. Stone rusticated quoins are present on the right-hand side. A sculpted stone mediaeval head is built into a bracket at the eaves at the south end of the buildings. A painted stone string course separates the ground and first floors. There are nine windows with exposed frames and glazing bars. The central window is in a projection that corbels out above the string course. The ground floor windows consist of two three-light windows and four single windows. There are two six-panel doors and two four-panel doors. Signs of mediaeval work are visible inside the houses.
