Description

Abbey House Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 1820s and 1840s, and potentially incorporating earlier fabric, with alterations and additions to the rear around 1965. The front and right return are built of yellow-grey brick in Flemish bond, while the left return is of thin red brick. The roof is covered in Welsh slate. The original design was for a two-room plan with a central entrance hall, later extended to the rear. The south front is symmetrical with three bays and two storeys. A projecting Doric porch features slender columns supporting an entablature with a plain frieze, moulded cornice and a flat hood. The porch fronts a six-field-panel door with a radial overlight in the reveal. Large twelve-pane sash windows with narrow glazing bars are set in reveals with painted ashlar sills and wedge lintels. There's a plain eaves board and corniced wooden gutter. The roof is hipped, with corniced end stacks. The interior has been largely altered in the 20th century.
