Description

The Red Roofs and Pantiles are almshouses, later converted into two dwellings, dating to 1726, with subsequent additions and alterations. They are built of colour-washed brick with a pantile roof. The building is single-storey with attics, and comprises six bays. Modern part-glazed doors are located at each end; the entrances were originally in the central bays. Three bays to the left feature six-pane, two-light Yorkshire sash windows. The remaining windows are nine-pane casements, mostly set under cambered arches, with the former entrances having flat arches. A moulded stone plaque above the former entrances is inscribed "This Hospital was Founded / By Sir Griffith Boynton Bart / and Erected AD 1726." A stepped eaves band is visible. Two raking dormers have casement windows. The roof is swept, with brick kneelers and copings. Brick stacks are located at the ends of the building.
