Description
The lantern turret in the garden of No 4 King Street is a significant architectural feature dating from around 1400. Made of white limestone, it is an octagonal structure with tall pierced openings on each side, featuring transoms and cusped ogees below. This turret was relocated from the Church of Saint Mary in Beverley by the antiquarian Gillyat Sumner, who resided at No 4 in the late 19th century. It was removed during restoration work carried out by Pugin.
