Description
The lighthouse and adjoining keeper's house, built in 1865, are located on Valentia Road in Hoylake. The disused lighthouse is octagonal in shape, constructed from brick with stone dressings. It features a battered base made of rock-faced stone, with an entrance on the north side and windows on the east and west sides. The tower has pilaster strips at the corners, with stone bases, and corbelling at the top. Small lights illuminate the stair and upper chamber on alternating sides. A stone platform supported by deep stone brackets holds an iron railing and an octagonal glazed light chamber topped with a conical roof and weather vane. Inside, there is a cast iron flying spiral stair with a mahogany handrail. The adjoining keeper's house is a two-storey brick structure with a central porch and flanking two-storey canted bay windows, along with one-storey end blocks. The windows are segmental-headed and feature casements.
