Description

The former threshing barn and stable/carriage house at Greenshouse Farm, located at 190 and 192 Longton Lane in Rainhill, dates from the early 18th to early 19th century. The building is primarily constructed of red brick, with some sections made of coursed rubble sandstone. The northern section features a low two-storey stone carriage house with a large opening that has a keystone. The red brick threshing barn has a substantial stone wall at the front, two oculi at the first floor level, and a round-headed entrance leading to the threshing floor. It also includes a cogged brick stringcourse and two late 19th-century windows. The rear of the barn has opposing threshing entrances that project under a shallow catslide roof supported by two brick piers, along with other openings on both floors. The street-facing gable end combines brick and stone with stone coping. The roof structure consists of a king post and side purlins, all pegged and morticed. This building is included for its group value with Greenshouse Farmhouse. Note that the rear range attached to the east and running east-west is not included in this listing.
