Description

The Elephant Hotel and Restaurant is a house that has been converted into a public house. It dates from the early 19th century, although it features a date stone from 1772 that has been resited, along with some details from the 1930s. The building is roughcast with a slate roof and stands three storeys tall with four bays, the first bay being recessed and only two storeys high.

Architectural details include a first-floor sill band, a top frieze, and a cornice. The ground floor has a five-light window supported by colonnettes with fluted capitals and small paned casements, while the first bay has casement windows. The windows on the first and second floors are sashed with glazing bars and shutters, and the central window on the first floor features a pediment. There are two entrances flanking the five-light window, each with ramped upper angles leading to flat surrounds; the left entrance has been converted into a window, while the right entrance has a 1930s overlight.

Three of the first-floor windows have 1930s iron balconies, with the central one displaying an elephant's head beneath it. The left return of the building is similar in style. The central entrance is set in a curved recess and features a semi-circular porch supported by columns with fluted capitals.
