Description

This is a terrace of nine houses, numbered 19 to 33 Lord Nelson Street, and including 12A St. Vincent Street. The terrace dates to the early 19th century and is constructed of brick with stone dressings, topped by a slate roof. The houses are three storeys high with a basement, and each has two bays. The windows have wedge lintels and are sash windows with glazing bars. A top cornice and end stacks are present. The houses have panelled doors set within Doric door cases, featuring reeded friezes, round-arched heads, and open pediments. Notable variations exist within the terrace: number 19 has casement windows to the second floor; numbers 21 and 23 have glazing bars only to the first-floor windows; number 25 features late 19th-century casement windows; and numbers 27 to 33 were derelict in 1984, having lost their roofs and having boarded-up windows. Number 31 retains a complete fanlight. 12A St. Vincent Street forms the return of number 33 and is a three-bay structure with a pediment and a plainer round-headed doorway, alongside an altered window to the right-hand bay of the ground floor.
