Description
Wrightington Bridge is a public road bridge that spans Wrightington Pond. It was built in 1778 and widened in 1927. The bridge is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features three segmental arches on each face, with the middle arch being larger. Each arch has a moulding around the extrados, and there is a sunken boss in each spandrel. The balustrade slopes upwards towards the center, accompanied by a moulded cornice below. The end piers have sunk panels. During the widening, a new flat road deck was added, and one facade was dismantled and rebuilt. The bridge was previously designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument but was removed from the schedule on January 9, 2015.
