Description
This barn, located 28 metres north-east of the farmhouse at Rugglesmire Farm, dates from 1753, as indicated by the inscription 'L M 1753' on the keystone of the arch. It is constructed of squared coursed sandstone and has a slate roof. The barn features a wide entrance with a segmental arched head and long-and-short jambs. A porch roof is supported by two series of shaped stone corbels, each projecting beyond the one below. To the left of the entrance is a later lean-to, while to the right, there is a pitching hole with a plain stone surround. At the rear, there are additional later lean-to shippons. Inside, the rear wall of the original barn has a blocked wide entrance. The roof is made from a mix of hard and soft wood, with trusses that include king posts with through tenons pegged below the ties, braced to the principals and the ridge. The purlins are scarfed.
